“MAÄRLA x Artbug presents INTERFACE, an exploration of human interaction and collaboration with the non-human: lifeforms, objects, environments, technology, etc. Through the work of three artists who refuse simple binary classifications of culture and nature, the show melds art practice and scientific inquiry, in search of social and spiritual connection with the more-than-human world.” - @artkshanks, Instagram
Previously undetectable, microbial life is rendered visible by the presence of pure nutrients. The fruiting colony sprawls across the unborn, uniting them. This connection is created by the encapsulation of a certain place in time within a pocket of space: a neural nesting. The fungi spreading across the clutch of egg-like forms symbolizes the nurture of a network that instills knowledge within us before genesis. As we take notice of our shared geometrical rhythms, psychological patterns, and origin stories it reveals a rich philosophy of interconnectivity across all matter/life. This communion of similarities creates dense webs of data that are observable in every discipline. As we visualize these connections, we are exposed to a small facet of the fabric of our reality that brings us closer to our surroundings and one another.
